HOLIDAY BONUSES FOR STAFF MEMBERS

This time of year, many Homeowners and Boards want to show their appreciation to their site staff members through bonuses. There are often disagreements as to the appropriate methods of calculation and distribution of these bonuses. Truthfully, there is no appropriate method! Many Management companies will budget holiday bonus at 1% to 10% of the employee's salary. Once the Board has approved the annual budget, the Management Company will distribute these funds typically mid December.

   

Some Boards choose not to budget an amount, but prefer to review the operating financials and determine an appropriate amount to give to the staff members. Others may choose to take up a collection from Homeowners and then distribute it amongst the staff in a manner they deem appropriate. Other Boards simply choose not to give anything as an Association. But ask that all of the Homeowners give each employee what they feel is necessary based on their individual experiences with the particular staff member. There is nothing prohibiting the Board or the Homeowners from giving holiday bonuses to the staff and there is nothing that says giving is proper protocol. The choice is strictly determined by the Board and Homeowners. While it is common practice, the choice, the amount and the method are yours.
